Flip Video Camera Project Abstract

The Flip Video Camera in the 21st Century Classroom
Young people today are accustomed to sharing information and acquiring knowledge through various forms of video.  YouTube is one of the most popular search engines next to Google.  Recent technologies have made recording and sharing video much easier.  As a result, many young people today have experience with shooting, editing, and posting video to the Internet, and many are intrinsically engaged and motivated to do so.  This project will explore the inherent interest and engagement in video as a potential catalyst for engaging students in a variety of meaningful learning experiences. The use of video production as a means to promote digital literacy will be a focus.  This project will specifically address the Flip Video Camera by Pure Digital Technologies for use in the classroom environment.  The Flip Video Camera is a small, inexpensive, easy to use, digital camcorder.  Cost effectiveness as well as ease of implementation will be discussed as benefits of the Flip style video camera.  The positive and negative implications of using Flip Video cameras in teaching and learning will also be addressed.  Finally, the researcher will summarize reasons why the use of Flip Video Cameras in educational environments will “stick”.
